A Better Way

Kaizen Nutrition & Wellness began as no more than a question – how to provide comprehensive, integrative services that address the root cause of symptoms by primarily using data from functional labs and food as medicine?

In order to address her own complex health issues, Founder, Jill Brown knew that an integrative approach would be necessary, and essentially built Kaizen Nutrition & Wellness around the needs of so many friends and family that were living with chronic disease, autoimmune conditions, or just didn’t feel that they were living their best life.

We know first-hand that it can be frustrating to bounce from practitioner to practitioner with bits and pieces, but no real eye on the overall wellness plan, or improvement in symptoms. We are here to pull it all together and support your body’s natural ability to heal with food.

We are committed to helping you not only slow or stop the progression of degenerative disease, but inspire you to create an intentional outcome with your health by utilizing a root cause approach.

About Jill

Jill relies on her experience as a former teacher to educate and empower individuals to develop an understanding of their health history in order to draw connections and inspire intentional outcomes for health and wellness.

Jill holds a BS in Education from Texas Woman’s University and MS in Nutrition Science from Meredith College. She is an Integrative and Functional Nutrition Certified Practitioner (IFNCP) and a Certified Leap Therapist (CLT) for food sensitivities and intolerances.

Jill’s previous nutrition experience includes serving as Director of Nutrition Education for a Feeding America Food Bank, providing nutrition education to communities at risk of hunger throughout North Carolina. She also worked with the Diabetes Self-Management Program (DSME), Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP) through the Department of Health and Human Services, and Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of both Duke Hospital and UNC Hospital.

We Thought Of Everything!

We know that healing is dynamic!  It involves not only addressing the physiology (what is physically happening in the body) but other factors that impact health such as stress, nutrition, sleep, movement, emotions, and areas in the body of stagnant energy flow.  Our bodies don’t lie – all of these factors play a significant role in the healing process.  That is why we have thoughtfully curated resources and services to support your journey- with more to come- because we are always thinking of new ways to empower you to support your healing.

We are excited to offer a unique integrative and functional nutrition approach that is appropriate for all conditions and symptoms ranging from gastrointestinal, to cardiovascular, autoimmune, neurological, hormonal and more.  Often when clients come to us, they are frustrated with a lack of support, compassionate care, and targeted strategies to help them start the healing process.  Unfortunately, we sometimes hear that clients have been told their symptoms “are all in their head” and yet, we are able to find gut imbalances or nutrient deficiencies that contribute directly to their symptoms.

Maybe you feel that you eat pretty well and know what you need to do, and just need a little accountability to help you reach your goals.  Short health coaching sessions can facilitate development of those small measurable goals.

For those who are more independent that want to learn online, we even have options for you through our online learning platform.  There is so much to learn in health and nutrition, and the science is continually evolving, so for those who just love learning or gaining information that will help achieve optimal health, we have an option for you.

For those that love data and are test junkies (you know who you are) we have a wide variety of testing options for you.  We do not believe in being a barrier to getting the testing you wish to have, and nutrition consults are not required to order any tests, however a free 15-minute exploratory call is recommended to accurately complete a testing requisition form.  Visit our Appointment page to schedule your call.  You may order a test before or after our call – your choice!

In short, we have something for everyone!

Disclosure:  verification of benefits is not a guarantee of eligibility or payment.  Actual payment is based on the terms and conditions of your insurance plan.  All claims are subject to review as insurance will only cover dietary services that are reasonable and or necessary.  We make every effort to accurately verify your insurance benefits before we meet.  In the event we receive inaccurate information from your insurance company, we will honor the contracted amount, determined to be patient responsibility by your insurer, and send you an invoice.  Any co-pay not collected at the time of service will be invoiced to you as well.  We encourage you to check your insurance benefits for nutrition counseling, codes 97802 and 97803.

Telehealth:  In general, most insurances do not cover telehealth services (online) and require in-office visits for nutrition counseling.  Those clients who are paying out-of-pocket for nutrition counseling may use a secure telehealth option.  Health coaching is not currently reimbursed by insurance companies, and has the option to use telehealth as well.

Some testing is partially covered by insurance.   For more information regarding a specific test, contact your provider

Yes!  If you are interested in working with us we can call to verify your insurance benefits for you.  Generally NC BCBS covers nutrition counseling at 100% with no deductible and no limit – which is fantastic!   Some insurance plans only cover certain conditions such as diabetes or kidney failure, and still others will require a referral (although this is rare).  Your insurance claims will be filed for you as well.

Nutrition consultations using insurance must meet in-person and Telehealth services will not be reimbursed by your insurance company.

Clients who are paying out-of-pocket for nutrition consultations may use a secure telehealth option.

Insurances Accepted

Some plans cover nutrition counseling at 100%, no deductible, and no limit – which is fantastic! Even if you think your insurance is not worth much when it comes to medical care, you might be surprised to find out that it overs nutrition counseling.

Some insurance plans only cover certain conditions such as diabetes or kidney failure, and still others will pay for any condition- but require proof of medical necessity beforehand. We can sort this out and determine benefits before we begin. If you do not have insurance or benefits that will cover the cost of services, you may use your HSA or Flex Spending account, or private pay.

If you would like for us to verify your insurance benefits before we meet, please schedule a FREE Exploratory Call, enter your insurance information, and upload a copy of your card.  We will go over your benefits during the call and determine the next steps.
